A Pittsburgh-based developer of patented and gecko-inspired gripping adhesive products has landed a new partnership with a leading aviation-related eyewear maker for the launch of a new product offering.
Setex Technologies, a spin-out of Carnegie Mellon University based out of a 12,000-square-foot facility in Lawrenceville, announced that its collaboration with Flying Eyes Optics has led to the creation of a sunglasses product equipped with Setex's anti-slip eyewear nose pads that are specifically designed for airplane pilots.
But the sunglasses are also suitable for motorcyclists and others who might experience frequent vibrations while wearing the product, Setex said that the sunglasses are designed to be compatible with helmets and headsets. Setex also said its gripping tech also allows for the sunglasses to be less susceptible to slippages due to sweat caused by heat or humidity.
"Having our eyewear stay in place no matter what the wearer is doing, is a major reason we’re excited to be working with Setex," Dean Siracusa, CEO of Flying Eyes, said in a prepared statement.
In October 2021, nanoGriptech Inc. announced it would go by the name of Setex Technologies Inc. as part of a rebranding effort for its business-to-business operations.
