Pittsburgh-based nanoGriptech Inc. announced it will now go by the name of Setex Technologies Inc. as part of a rebranding effort for its business-to-business operations.
The company specializes in making microstructured dry adhesives and surfaces — modeled off of the grip-enabling hairs found on the toes of geckos — for a variety of consumer and industrial needs. Setex said it works with numerous Fortune 500 companies that implement its technologies across an array of use cases including wearables, semiconductor and glass handling and automotive upholstery fastening.
Last year, the company began using the Setex brand name — itself borrowed from the setae name given to the hairs found on geckos' feet — to market grip pad products for eyeglasses, earbuds, game controllers and other devices for consumers. Now it will be shared across its consumer and business customers.
“We have built a strong following on Amazon with our Setex brand and have a leading market share in the eyeglass nose pads category,” CEO Nicholas Kuhn said in a prepared statement. “As we continue to grow, we saw the opportunity to leverage our technology to build the Setex brand into a household name.”
The company was spun out of Carnegie Mellon University in 2009 by its founder Metin Sitti. It maintains a 12,000-square-foot facility in Lawrenceville.
