HackEDU, a cybersecurity training startup that recently moved its headquarters from Santa Monica, California, to the Strip District in Pittsburgh, announced it acquired a cybersecurity education peer called Security Journey, which is based in Raleigh, North Carolina.
As a combined company, HackEDU is now aiming to offer enterprises one vendor to turn to when it comes to cybersecurity training needs and best practices. HackEDU's specialty in cybersecurity and secure code training stems from its ability to offer courses for everyone, from those who have never experienced the more technical side of cybersecurity to those who have been working in the industry for decades. It does this via multiple training modalities and through courses that have been "gamified" into more engaging lessons.
The company is betting on the growing demand that companies of all sizes and scopes must adopt heightened cybersecurity efforts across nearly every channel of their business, which HackEDU aims to inform people on how to do that in a way that best suits the needs of a given business.
"The combination of our organizations provides a breadth and quality of training for secure software development that no other provider delivers and that the market has been asking for," Joe Ferrara, HackEDU CEO, said in a press release. "Enterprises will now have the opportunity to take their training programs beyond compliance-driven awareness training and educate their organization to embrace a secure software development lifecycle that reduces the likelihood of successful attacks."
HackEDU did not disclose the financial terms of the acquisition. The company lists more than a dozen job openings on its website available to those who wish to work in Pittsburgh, Raleigh or even remotely.
The company had 43 employees back at the end of March when it announced its plans to make Pittsburgh its new headquarters, half of whom now work out of its office in the Crane Building on 24th Street.
