Hornetsecurity, a Pittsburgh-based email cloud security and backup provider, announced it acquired security awareness training company IT-Seal, which is based in Darmstadt, Germany. It's the latest of several acquisitions made by Hornetsecurity in recent years.
The two companies did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.
With the acquisition of IT-Seal, Hornetsecurity looks to broaden its cybersecurity-related offerings. The company's flagship product claims to be one of the most comprehensive cloud security solutions for Microsoft Office 365, the software suite of office applications from Microsoft Corp. It includes capabilities like filtering tools for spam and viruses, phishing and ransomware protection, archiving and encryption resources and advanced threat protection, among others.
"With IT-Seal on board, we will now provide IT security training as part of our package," Daniel Hofmann, CEO of Hornetsecurity, said in a release. "This enables us to cover all aspects of the awareness-prevention-detection cycle, alongside our established email security and backup and recovery solutions."
IT-Seal's three co-founders — David Kelm, Alex Wyllie and Yannic Ambach — will maintain their board positions while continuing to develop their product and its services under Hornetsecurity's ownership.
Hornetsecurity's acquisition follows that of several other deals the local firm has made over the years.
In 2021, it acquired backup solutions provider Altaro and Canadian email security leader Zerospam, which followed a 2020 deal that saw Hornetsecurity acquire EveryCloud, the British market partner to Spain-based cloud email security provider Spamina, which Hornetsecurity acquired in 2019.
Hornetsecurity employs 400 employees globally.
