A new art deco co-working space for entrepreneurs, recent college graduates or anyone pursuing innovation- and technology-related work is opening later this spring at 122 Meyran Ave. in Oakland.

It's the latest expansion from Avenu Workspaces, a co-working platform from the Pittsburgh Innovation District.

With an anticipated opening of May 2022, the 5,290-square-foot total space will include 2,300 square feet of open space for dedicated desks and informal meeting or collaboration space. More secluded options will include five private offices ranging from 120 to 145 square feet and two large offices spanning 500-square-feet. It'll also feature a dedicated conference room and private call rooms.

Amenities include 24-hour access, seven days a week, as well as a full kitchen, printing, internet access, a coffee bar, showers and discounts to nearby businesses, among others.

The second-floor views of Forbes Avenue are Mike Madden's favorite feature of the new space. As the director of the Pittsburgh Innovation District, Madden said the new co-working space puts those who use it "in the heart of the Pittsburgh Innovation District," with the space's doorway just steps from the University of Pittsburgh campus and a brief walk from that of Carnegie Mellon University's campus.

"Avenu Workspace’s mission is to create space for those who want to start or grow companies adjacent to the universities in Oakland," Madden said in a statement. "The Fifth and Forbes corridor is rich with talent, investment, and opportunity. We needed to create a shared space where all of these benefits can come together and flourish."

Flexible-term leasing for the new space has already begun. Dedicated desk space starts at $300 per month while a private office starts at $800 per month. Day passes are also available to those who are looking for shorter periods of access.

In addition to the upcoming opening of the new space, the co-working platform also has the new name: Avenu Workspaces. It initially went by the names of StartUptown and RevvOakland, before the most-recent change.

"We are rebranding the name to Avenu Workspaces," Madden said in an email statement to Pittsburgh Inno. "We feel this will reinforce what our brand provides and bring overall clarity to the name."

Avenu Workspaces is also now celebrating its 10th anniversary. It maintains two other locations in Oakland — King’s Court Technology Center on Forbes Avenue and RevvOakland on Oakland Avenue. Its Uptown location is the Paramount Film Exchange on Miltenberger Street.
