The Philadelphia Business Journal and PHL Inno will celebrate the 2023 Fire Awards honorees at an afternoon event Thursday at Yards Brewing in Philadelphia. As part of the event, two local venture capitalists focused on early stage startups will be part of a panel discussion, providing insights into fundraising and current market trends.
Sylvester Mobley, co-founder of Plain Sight Capital and Coded by Kids, and Ellen Weber, the longtime executive director of Robin Hood Ventures, will join PHL Inno reporter Ryan Mulligan for a live discussion to kick off the event. Both have been pillars of the region’s startup industry for more than a decade, and in the case of Weber, for nearly 25 years. Mobley's Plain Sight Capital has a particular focus on underrepresented founders, including people of color and women.

The Fire Awards are PHL Inno’s premier awards program, showcasing the businesses, institutions and individuals driving the region’s innovation scene forward. Launched last year, this will be the first time the awards are celebrated at a live event.
In total, the 2023 Fire Awards recognize 20 companies and individuals from the region. Companies range from growth-stage startups to local tech pillars while individual honorees include founders, CEOs, accelerators and investors.
