Local technology company Oceanit is bringing some of its Hawaii-grown energy technology to an international audience at a showcase event in Texas next week.

Oceanit will host its Technology Showcase at 5 p.m. on May 7 in Houston, coinciding with this year’s Offshore Technology Conference.

Oceanit Director of Marketing James Andrews told Pacific Business News that this marks Oceanit’s seventh such showcase, which it always hosts in conjunction with the annual Offshore Technology Conference.

“OTC is one of the biggest international energy sector conferences of the year, so tens of thousands of energy, oil, and gas people come in from around the world,” he said.

Though it takes place during the conference, the Oceanit Technology Showcase is its own event, off-site from OTC. Past showcase events have drawn in about 200 attendees, Andrews noted.

During the showcase, Oceanit will demo its latest energy innovations, and Andrews said that this year there will be a focus on its Hydrogen Hub lab, H2XCEL. He noted that other technologies developed in Hawaii that will be featured include a hydrogen production technology, nanocomposite surface treatments, and various applications of AI. Oceanit also will present HydroPel, a technology that it developed in collaboration with Hawaii Gas to enable natural gas pipelines to safely transport hydrogen.

“As a ‘mind-to-market’ company, we will be showcasing technology the market needs today that immediately reduces cost, reduces climate impact and improves reliability, plus we will show technology to address where the market is going — disruptive tech for low-cost H2 production, new materials — metals and polymers that don’t exist today but can be synthesized with AI and delivered with 3-D printers, etc.,” CEO Patrick Sullivan said in an email to PBN. “The reason this has become the ‘must-attend’ event in the energy industry is that they get to see the future, while addressing the present.

“Since the energy industry is so dynamic, the opportunity space is vast. The need for innovation is very high. The key is to bring these interesting scientific discoveries to scale quickly,” he added.

Sullivan, who founded Oceanit in 1985, also will deliver a keynote speech during the showcase.

In addition to its own event, Oceanit also has four of its scientists presenting their research at the Offshore Technology Conference.

The showcase will take place at Houston’s 1940 Air Terminal Museum. For more on the Oceanit Technology Showcase, click here. And for more information on the Offshore Technology Conference, click here.
