Telecommunications provider Hawaiian Telcom has launched a new service aimed at small-to-medium businesses, the company recently announced.

According to an April 2 release, the new Secure Network provides “cyberthreat protection for businesses with limited resources, while delivering superior network performance and Wi-Fi."

The company said in the release that “cyberattacks have become a much larger threat than a typical small business can address.”

“Any device with outdated or unpatched firmware is a possible opening to a cyberattack — be it a desktop computer, a printer, a point-of-sale system or a smartphone. Hawaiian Telcom’s Secure Network solution protects businesses from cyberattacks no matter where they originate.”

According to information on Hawaiian Telcom’s website, 71% of ransomware attacks target small businesses.

Filifotu Vaai, vice president of business sales at Hawaiian Telcom, told Pacific Business News in an email that the service “includes professionally installed enterprise-grade equipment from Fortinet, which is recognized as an industry leader by Gartner.”

“Our Secure Network equipment, which includes firewall, network switch, and wireless access point, are top of the line and are not available in stores,” Vaai said.

According to the company, the service includes protection for wired and wireless devices, up-to-date security threat intelligence powered by AI, separate Wi-Fi networks for employees and guests, and automatic quarantines for compromised devices.

Vaai did not disclose the cost for creating the new Secure Network solution, but noted that the service was developed over a 12-month period in collaboration with a team at Fortinet.

“Our technology uses AI to flag possible threats for review — machine learning will analyze it and flag it for a human to review for next steps if needed,” Vaai said.

“Secure Network gives smaller businesses the connectivity and protection they need to succeed today and into the future,” she added.
