A conference on cloud technology will return next week for its second annual event. The Hawaii Cloud Innovation Summit will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Hawaii Convention Center.

Hosted jointly by two local nonprofits, TRUE Initiative and Transform Hawaii Government, the event will feature speakers, panel discussions, workshops and networking opportunities — all focused on exploring new technologies and tech-enabling the local workforce.

The TRUE Initiative and Transform Hawaii Government launched the conference in 2022. As organizers told Pacific Business News at that time, they created the event as a way to showcase how cloud technology can benefit businesses.

“This year’s theme, Laulima: Working Together to Future Proof Hawaii’s Economy," brings together all sectors of the economy and highlights the importance of collaboration to drive growth and success,” event organizers said in a statement.

The Hawaii Cloud Innovation Summit will kick off with a keynote address from Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke, followed by a panel titled “The Role of Hawaii’s Leaders in Driving Digital Transformation,” featuring Peter Dames of Servco Pacific, Connie Mitchell of the Institute of Human Services, Ed Sniffen of the state Department of Transportation, and Suzanne Vares-Lum of the East-West Center.

Other sessions throughout the morning will cover topics including addressing workforce challenges, innovation in business, and utilizing technology in disaster preparedness.

The afternoon programming will feature three different areas of focus: technical, business, and workforce enablement.

Local speakers in the afternoon sessions include: Rick Hopfer of HMSA, who will speak on “Protecting People & the Planet;” Ben Schuster of First Hawaiian Bank on “Cloud Adoption through Digital Innovation at First Hawaiian Bank;” and Salvatore Aurigemma of Shidler College of Business, on how to “Train the Future Workforce.” A panel discussion in the workforce enablement track also will cover “Digital Transformation & Lifelong Learning,” featuring Alan Ito of the University of Hawaii, Bennette Misalucha of the Hawaii Workforce Development Council, and Clyde Shiigi of DataHouse.

The event also will feature a Tech Village, where attendees can meet with various technology companies — including local businesses such as DataHouse and TRUE, as well as others including ScaleCapacity and Delphix.
