Bank of Hawaii opened its new branch in Hilo on Hawaii Island Monday, marking the event with a traditional Hawaiian blessing before opening its doors to the public for the first time.
"This new branch helps to address the financial needs of the Hilo community in a brand-new space. And more importantly, we’re excited to have the same friendly team from neighboring branches who have all transferred over to care for our customers." Steven Sylvester, BOH VP and Market Manager for East Hawaii, told PBN.
The new Branch of Tomorrow is located on Kinoole Street in Hilo, and offers a technology-focused Teller Bar, biometric safe deposit boxes, Pili Room for private consultations, Banklanai and a drive-thru ATM, according to the financial institution.
The architect of the new branch was MC Architects, and the contractor was Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company.
All employees from the nearby Kaikoo Branch, located on Pauahi St. and now closed, were transferred to the new branch. The Waiakea Branch, which closed at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, is now permanently closed, according to Bank of Hawaii.
Bank of Hawaii has been in the Hilo community for more than 100 years, and this is the bank’s third Branch of Tomorrow on Hawaii Island. As previously reported by Pacific Business News, Hawaii Island's first Branch of Tomorrow opened at Safeway Niumalu Marketplace in May 2021, and the second opened in Waimea on Aug. 8, 2022.
