Solar energy storage company Holu Hou Energy, a subsidiary of Borqs Technologies, has signed a power purchase agreement to deliver energy to Luhauola, a new mixed-use development in Kapolei, the company announced Tuesday.

The contract is valued at "several million dollars," according to the statement and includes 200KW of PV and 500KWh of energy storage, according to Borqs. The system will be placed into service in 2023.

The Kapolei development consists of 29 workforce housing rental apartments, 10,000 square feet of commercial space, and provides outdoor dining for local food establishments.

Holu Hou Energy will construct the solar plus energy storage system utilizing its HoluPower residential energy storage system, combined with the residential and commercial scale solar generation, according to Borqs.

“Our products and services are improving the lives of customers every day by delivering cheaper, cleaner and more reliable electricity, including to those living in multi-dwelling unit residential housing,” Brad Hansen, CEO of Holu Hou Energy, said in a statement. “We look forward to building on our Hawaii leadership position and bringing this same energy independence to markets like California in the near future.”

Holu Hou Energy also recently signed an agreement in July 2022 with Honokea Villages in Kapolei for an energy generation and storage system to support a sports training facility, according to Borqs Technologies CEO Pat Chan. The system is valued at nearly $20 million, and will consist of over 3 MW of photovoltaic generation and over 4 MWh of energy storage, which will begin construction in 2023.
