A mainstay of the Nashville Entrepreneur Center for almost all of its 12-year existence is leaving.
John Murdock, currently the nonprofit's president and chief operating officer, is departing in August — ending an 11-year run in which he held various roles at an organization that's considered a first-stop for people looking to create a business in Nashville.
Murdock is joining private equity firm Shore Capital Partners as vice president of strategic planning.
"I leave, confident that the EC is in the strongest position it has ever been," Murdock said on his LinkedIn page. "The organization’s mission, financials, and team have never been stronger. The leadership and team at the EC have my full endorsement, and will always have my support, though the mode of that support has changed. It is someone else’s turn to serve.
"I am excited for my next adventure," Murdock said of the Shore Capital job. "It will be challenging, fast-paced, and deeply impactful. My kind of vibe. It’s also a natural continuation of my work helping entrepreneurs create and grow value."
Chicago-based Shore Capital opened its Nashville office in 2019 with six people, including serial entrepreneur Michael Burcham — who was the founding CEO of the Entrepreneur Center and whom Murdock called his "friend and mentor." Shore Capital invests in 34 companies across the U.S., according to its website.
The Entrepreneur Center, led by CEO Jane Allen, has posted a job opening seeking a new president and chief operating officer. Also, the center is hiring a director of operations.
