The Green Bay-based TitletownTech Venture Fund has invested in a Brooklyn, New York-based social media startup that's being used widely by American professional sports teams.
Slate, which launched its real-time social media content platform in 2019, allows companies to create branded social content on its smartphone app. Within the app, companies can overlay content with their own branded fonts, colors, filters and graphics and post to social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram.
Terms of the investment deal were not disclosed, but TitletownTech, a fund launched in partnership by the Green Bay Packers and Microsoft Corp., makes investments in the range of $100,000 to $1 million, but most often the investments range from $250,000 to $500,000.
“Slate has been an outstanding tool for the Packers social team,” said Ryan Hartwig, the Green Bay Packers social media manager. “We utilize it not only on gameday, but on a daily basis when covering things such as practices, team travel and community events. With the ability to upload and quickly utilize custom filters, graphics, logos and fonts, Slate allows us to maintain a unique and consistent look across our social channels, particularly on our Instagram and Snapchat Stories.”
Joining TitletownTech in the investment in Slate is WISE Ventures, a New York-based investment firm founded by the owners of the Minnesota Vikings.
“Partnering with TitletownTech has been amazing for us," said Michael Horton, co-founder and CEO of Slate, in a statement. "Their expertise and network in both sports and technology really made them the ideal investor for Slate.”
