Amazon unveiled plans today to create 3,500 new tech and corporate jobs across six U.S. cities, and Denver made the cut.

The tech giant is expanding its Tech Hubs in Dallas, Detroit, Denver, New York (Manhattan), Phoenix and San Diego, in a move that represents an investment of more than $1.4 billion in growth.

"People from all walks of life come to Amazon to develop their careers–from recent graduates looking for a place to turn their ideas into high-impact products, to veterans accessing new jobs in cloud computing thanks to our upskilling programs," Beth Galetti, senior vice president, human resources, said in a statement. "These 3,500 new jobs will be in cities across the country with strong and diverse talent pools. We look forward to helping these communities grow their emerging tech workforce."

Amazon expects to hire across a variety of departments, from cloud infrastructure architects and software engineers to data scientists, product managers and user experience designers.

The company plans to add an additional 100 jobs and 20,000 square feet of new office space in Denver as part of the move. Amazon currently employs about 10,500 people in Colorado across its Tech Hubs, Whole Foods stores, fulfillment and delivery centers and more.

“These 100 new jobs will not only help to grow Amazon’s Denver Tech Hub, but will also support the burgeoning pool of talented tech workers here in Denver,” Dave Wood, director of engineering and site lead of Amazon’s Denver Tech Hub, said in a statement. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with local leaders, investing in the local community and creating jobs and opportunities that will support the Denver economy and talent pool.”

Currently, Amazon has more than 700 employees at its Denver Tech Hub.

From 2010 to 2019, the company said it has invested more than $2.8 billion into the state's economy, including infrastructure and employee compensation.

This is the second major expansion Amazon has announced for its Denver Tech Hub in recent years. In April 2019, the company announced plans to create 400 new jobs in software and hardware engineering, cloud computing and advertising in Denver.

At the time, Amazon was moving into a new 98,000 square foot office at 1515 Wynkoop St. in the LoDo neighborhood.
