A Moraine-based company is launching a brand-new product that will simplify temperature-controlled shipping. It could lead to future investments in the Dayton region.

Microtek Laboratories Inc., a CAVU Group company, is introducing a year-round shipping solution for pharmaceuticals, medical devices and other temperature-sensitive products. The product, called adaptek CRT365, will service North American clients and be manufactured from the company's 78,000-square-foot facility in Moraine at 2400 E. River Road.

"As manufacturers continue to introduce new products, it is imperative that logistics keeps pace to ensure their safe and affordable delivery," said Timothy Riazzi, CAVU's president, in a statement. "While continuing to advance our adaptek solutions, we are excited to be investing in the development of a total packaging solutions to further enhance temperature management and control."

David Haan, director of product and marketing for CAVU, described it as the "first complete solution that we have come out with that's a validated shipper that will manage temperatures between 15 and 25 degrees Celcius for a minimum of 48 hours." He also noted that Covid-19 and the vaccines that came with it made more people aware of temperature-controlled shipping and its importance.

The company — with roughly 60 local employees — will not immediately make any new investments in the Dayton region. But Haan said the company "anticipates and hopes that as this product becomes more successful, we will have to invest more into our manufacturing facility here in Moraine."

The product has competition, but Haan said it stands out because of its ability to be a year-round solution.

He put it like this: January in Michigan is much different from Las Vegas in June, so the company's competitors will have what they refer to as a winter or summer "pack out," — which Hann described as a "specific group of packages or packs that you put even around your payload to protect it from getting too hot in the summer or from getting too cold in the winter."

"Our product actually has a single pack out all year round, so no matter when you're shipping or where you ship to or from, it always the same pack out," he said. "It's a single year-round solution you don't have to worry about."

CAVU Group describes itself as a "leading provider of temperature monitoring and management solutions for industry's most critical applications." Its name is an aviation acronym that represents ideal flying conditions, reflecting the region's aviation heritage.
