Downtown Dayton to welcome 3 new woman-owned businesses

Downtown Dayton is welcoming three new woman-owned businesses to its portfolio when they flip their signs to open later this week. The firms will bring more jobs to the city core and more consumer options.

Gem City Laser, The Bridal House and The Remedy are preparing for their grand openings this Friday, May 6, amid the downtown area’s recent surge in woman-owned businesses.


Gem City Laser (GCL)

A minority-owned custom laser-made gift shop for retail, corporate and wholesale gift giving has moved to a new location in the Bindery Building. Established in August of 2021, co-owners and mother-daughter duo Shelly Cooper and Bree Thomas offer personalized products designed in-house at an affordable price.

Gem City Laser will host its grand opening, from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, at their new location with a set of engraved goods available on display for purchase.

Hours of operation: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday

The Bridal House

A new bridal shop, owned by Amina Chakhalidze, specializing in unique, internationally-sourced wedding gowns and accessories. The shop offers in-house alterations of its custom gowns in the former Spice Paradise location in Oregon District. Read additional info about the shop in a previous DBJ article.

"We have very unique dresses you can't find at any other stores," Chakhalidze said.

The Bridal House will host its ribbon-cutting at 3 p.m. Friday.

The Remedy

Four Acres Photography’s co-owners Didi Williamson and Travis Williamson are opening a new, expanded studio and events space called The Remedy. The husband-and-wife duo’s 2,000-square-foot space will be available for rent to local photographers by the hour, half day and full day.

The Remedy will host its grand opening at 4 p.m. Friday.
