Dallas-based esports company OpTic Gaming has appointed its founder Hector Rodriguez to assume the position of CEO following the announcement that Adam Rymer would be stepping down and transitioning into a strategic advisory role, according to a news release.
In his position as CEO, Rodriguez will lead the company's long-term vision for content, fan engagement, innovation and media.
"Adam has been instrumental in accelerating our business and setting strategic priorities for the future and a driving force in helping our organization more than double revenue over the last 12 months," Geoff Moore, president and COO at OpTic, said in the release. "We're continuing to push the industry forward and bring ways to excite and engage with fans to life through content, events and new platforms."
OpTic Gaming was founded in 2006 and features content creators, competitive gamers and esports teams with global reach. Recently, the company launched its OpTic Nation program for fans worldwide to engage directly with teams, creators and gamers powering the OpTic brand.
In July, OpTic acquired Dallas-based Botisimo, Inc., a cross-platform engagement and monetization tool for streamers, content creators and esports teams for an undisclosed price. The acquisition was OpTic's first in the technology space and follows an investment by the company into Botisimo's Series A funding in 2021.
In June, Envy Gaming retired its esports brand to become OpTic Gaming. The two companies had initially merged in Nov. 2021 to launch a new Call of Duty League team for an undisclosed price.
In July 2020, Rymer was appointed to CEO, replacing founder and owner Mike Rufail.
