Envy Gaming is changing its esports brand and will be known going forward as OpTic Gaming. The news was announced in a video conversation between Chief Gaming Officer Mike Rufail and President Hector Rodriguez on Monday.

Envy Gaming merged with esports and entertainment company OpTic Gaming in 2021, but Envy’s branding survived the move. Earlier this year, the Envy brand was retired and now the name is changing too.

Envy was founded by Rufail in 2007

“When we merged our companies together, we had this thought of taking both of our brands and doing things with them and continuing to do the same things we’ve always done and grow them. I had in the back of my mind there was a potential to sunset Envy and invest all our resources in OpTic. Basically, what we’re going to do is take the Envy brand out of esports right now.” Rufail said in the video.

All things that were named Envy before (team names, foundations, etc.) will be named OpTic going forward.

“We are putting all our resources into OpTic and that is where we are really going to grow our business. We need to move this into a place where we have extreme focus on what we’re doing and it’s better to do it with one brand than two.” Rufail said.

There’s one exception — the Dallas Fuel team in the Overwatch League will keep its name — because Rufail thinks the “brand is engrained in the Overwatch community.”

The company’s logo will change and the merged companies will remain in their headquarters and training facility in Victory Plaza.

“The future of this thing is very, very bright. The more we look at competitors and see one diligently positioned and well-put brand, the more that is the path moving forward.” Rodriguez said in the video.
