A Frisco startup is looking to cut through the noise of other social media apps and give digital content creators a way to reach more fans.

TUBBR, an invite-only social network, announced landing Angel Funding from Global Ascent Partners that it plans to use for its upcoming beta launch. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“In today’s chaotic Social Media Environment, we’re experiencing major challenges when it comes to having authentic communication,” the company wrote in a blog post. “More followers, more platforms, and more content have led to zero privacy and limited control over what we can share — making it difficult to have meaningful conversations with relevant people.”

Launched in 2015 by Saurabh Uttam, who handles the development and marketing side of things, and Ravi Singhal, who takes care of technology and operations, the company has grown to a 12-person team. It has also raised a total of $175K, according to Crunchbase.

Unlike many other social media apps, TUBBR is invite-only. Its users create “walls” that allow them to share content and connect with other users. There’s also a more private feature that allows users to collaborate with their friends on the network. TUBBR said it already has 200,000 users on the platform.

With the new funding from Global Ascent Partners, which is led by Austin-based Managing Partner Sandeep Kumar, TUBBR is prepping for the launch of its beta version in January. The new version will include features like premium walls and paid live streaming, which the company said will help creators better monetize their content online. It’s initial alpha-I version launched about two years ago.

“Our motive is to connect the next billion people better and empower them to create sustainable passive income, building an ultimate social communication and discovery platform,” Uttam said in a statement.
