A fast-growing Cincinnati health care tech startup has added a former board member and industry veteran to its C-suite.

Carefeed, which has developed a resident and family engagement platform tailored to the senior living industry, named Steve Haynes its chief strategy officer, effectively immediately.

Haynes, a Cleveland native, was previously on Carefeed’s board of directors and most recently served as the executive vice president of corporate development at ShiftKey, a Dallas technology-based marketplace for health care staffing.

In the role, he will take over strategy for corporate development.

It’s a new position for Carefeed, which has a team of around 20. He will remain based in northern Ohio.

“Steve’s extensive industry knowledge is the perfect ingredient to drive our momentum,” Terry Wall, CEO and founder of Carefeed, said in a news release. “The market we serve is under-resourced. His keen insight, industry knowledge and relationships will enable us to build value-creating partnerships – and ultimately make a huge difference in the ecosystem.”

Prior to ShiftKey, Haynes was on the leadership team at OnShift, a Cleveland management software provider for post-acute care and senior living centers.

He’s been involved with a number of state groups, including the Ohio Venture Association, VentureOhio, Association for Corporate Growth and the technology review board of the Ohio State University’s College of Medicine.

“As a board member at Carefeed, I have had the pleasure to witness its incredible growth in such a short period of time and catch a glimpse of what the company has in store,” Haynes said in the release. “The aim of every person at Carefeed – including Terry and the leadership team – is to enable every caregiver to spend more time with their residents by automating time-consuming daily tasks.  believe in their mission.”

Carefeed, based in Over-the-Rhine, provides digital communication solutions to senior care facilities, including skilled nursing, assisted living, memory care, rehab, adult day care, hospice, long-term care centers and more.

The business saw a boost due in part to the Covid-19 pandemic, but Wall said Carefeed also automates antiquated processes like paper admission agreements and calendars, phone-based safety announcements, care conference schedules and more and distributes them via text, email and voice.

Its products are used by some of the largest senior living companies in the U.S. The company said it offers significant time and cost-saving features to support communications while also helping communities stay compliant with regulations that govern the distribution and accessibility of information.

With its $3 million fundraise in 2022, it planned to accelerate adoption across the U.S. and Canada. The company also said it would broaden its suite of solutions.

Carefeed, a gBeta Cincy and SoCap Accelerate alum, is backed by New York City-based Reformation Partners; Allos Ventures, based in Indianapolis and Cincinnati; and M25, a Chicago- and Indianapolis-based VC firm. It was named a Cincy Inno “Startup to Watch” in 2021.
