It's September, and that means it's back to school season for Chicago college students. And it also means it's time for college ranking lists, and a Chicago university cracked the top 10 in the world in a new ranking.
The University of Chicago was ranked No. 10 in this year's QS World University Rankings, an annual list that measures colleges and universities across the world by evaluating a school's research, teaching, employability and internationalization.
Topping the 2016 list was MIT, followed by Stanford, Harvard, and the University of Cambridge. This is the first year the three top spots were held by US institutions. UChicago was ranked No. 10 in the 2015 rankings, and No. 11 in 2014.
Northwestern was ranked No. 26, the University of Illinois was No. 66, and UIC was No. 187.
Here are the top 10:
1. MIT
2. Stanford
3. Harvard
4. University of Cambridge
5. California Institute of Technology
6. University of Oxford

To formulate its list, the QS World University Rankings examined each school's academic reputation, employer reputation, student-to-faculty ratio, the number of citations per faculty, international faculty ratio and international student ratio.
