A Chicago startup that helps you find painters just landed some seed funding as it plans to expand to new markets.

Improovy said Tuesday it has raised $2.8 million led by Chicago VC firm M25. Other backers include Matchstick Ventures, Allos Ventures, MATH Venture Partners, FJ Labs, Pareto Holdings and Techstars. Improovy participated in Techstars Chicago's 2020 cohort.

Founded in 2019, Improovy's platform connects homeowners with painting contractors, allowing users to compare multiple painters, read reviews and select a contractor. Improovy offers a virtual design consultation tool in partnership with Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore, which helps users select paint colors. It offers interior and exterior painting jobs, whole house painting and drywall repair.

Along with streamlining the process for homeowners, the platform also makes it easier for contractors to book jobs and find consistent work.

The startup is led by CEO and co-founder Andre Kazimierski, who started house painting at 19 and previously ran cleaning and painting companies 3rd Gen Painting and Remodeling and Sophias Cleaning Service.

After launching in Chicago, Improovy has expanded to St. Louis, Ann Arbor and Dallas. The startup said it plans to add several new cities in the coming months.

Other backers in Improovy's round include angel investors like Lightstream CEO Stu Grubbs, Provi CEO Taylor Katzman and Arrive Logistics founders Eric Dunigan and Matt Pyatt

Improovy also said it named Garry Cooper, the CEO of Rheaply, a Chicago startup that just raised $20 million, to its board of directors.
