Huntersville pet-sitting business Wagz 'n Whiskerz was acquired last month by Swifto, a tech-enabled, pet-services company based in New York.
Swifto, founded in 2012, announced the deal April 17. The company says the purchase expands its operations and allows it to enhance Wagz's offerings with technology and a personalized approach.
Wagz was launched in 2011.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Penina First, CEO and founder at Swifto, told CBJ that Wagz earned nearly $500,000 in revenue last year.
Swifto combines dog-walking services with real-time GPS tracking technology, enabling pet owners to ensure their dogs are provided the proper time and distance on every walk.
The deal with Wagz marks Swifto's expansion into North Carolina. It also has operations in New York and Miami.
"This move aligns with our mission to merge cutting-edge technology with trusted local dog walking, setting new standards in pet care," First said in a news release.
Prior to Wagz, Swifto acquired New York-based companies such as Furkid Co. and Barkbud.
First said Wagz's 30-plus employees will remain working at the company's Huntersville base. It will continue to operate under its established name to maintain local brand identity.
"After many rewarding years, I am delighted to pass the reins to Swifto, a company that shares our values of care and community. Their technological support combined with our local insight ensures that our clients and their pets will continue receiving top care," Pat Blaney, owner of Wagz, said in a statement.
