A remote workforce startup is eliminating 75 workers, including six in Western New York.

Tackle.io, a cloud marketplace unicorn, announced this month a reorganization and restructuring of its team that’s led to reducing its staff. The company had a total of 310 employees as of late last year when it was named among the fastest-growing technology businesses in North America, according to the 2022 Deloitte Technology Fast 500.

After the latest job cuts, about 20 of the business' workers are based in Western New York, including CEO John Jahnke, he confirmed to Business First.

“Today, we made the decision to reorganize and restructure our team to set ourselves up for our long-term mission of being the Cloud GTM company and are unfortunately separating from 75 of our amazing Tacklers,” he wrote in a blog post on the company’s website. “This is a decision that comes after an ongoing discussion about how the market is evolving, what our customers most need today, and how we best adapt for short and long-term success.”

Tackle.io currently has enough capital to last more than five years and is “well beyond profitability,” he added. The restructuring is meant to allow the business to focus investments short term while adjusting to the current market and being ready to reinvest as the market recovers.

The company overbuilt in 2021 and 2022 and is exiting a “growth-at-all-costs era of software” to focus on capital-efficient growth.
