A San Francisco-based company has acquired Empire Genomics, a spinoff from human genome research tied to oncology that started at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Biocare Medical, which provides solutions for cancer research and diagnostics, acquired the Amherst-based company because it will accelerate research and advance cancer diagnosis, according to a press release.
Empire Genomics was founded in 2006 on the basis of Norma Nowak's research at the University at Buffalo and Roswell Park. It's located at 1000 Youngs Road, Amherst.
The business designs, manufactures and distributes clinical and custom-labeled molecular probes. These probes help organizations advance biomarker research, accelerate diagnoses and better personalized treatment options for cancer patients and others with complex diseases.
“This acquisition complements our broad portfolio of IHC antibodies, robust molecular menu and advanced automation platforms," Biocare Medical CEO Luis de Luzuriaga said in the release.
Terms were not released.
In 2017, KSL Biomedical spun off the laboratory testing division from Empire Genomics.
