There's a 'Gilmore Girls' Knitathon in the Public Garden This Weekend

Back in early October, Cafenation, a coffee shop in Brighton, was transformed into Luke's Diner from Gilmore Girls as part of a 200-city nationwide PR tour in preparation of the show's highly anticipated return via Netflix. And wouldn't you know – locals were really, really into it.

Well, this Sunday, another slice of Stars Hollow is coming to The Hub in the form of a knitathon in the Public Garden hosted by Christina Fagan and her startup Sh*t That I Knit.

Admittedly, I've never seen an episode of this show. So the connection was lost on me. Fagan, however, was happy to put me in my place.

"Any connoisseur of the show would know that they host a knitathon in Stars Hollow to raise money for the Muddy River bridge!" she told me.

What can one expect from such an event, you wonder? Attendees of all skill levels will meet up for some snacks in the Garden this Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Here's more from Fagan:

I was recently knitflixing (knitting and Netflixing) to Gilmore Girls and the idea popped into my head during Season 7's episode titled: "Knit, People, Knit!" In celebration of Gilmore Girls' return, I thought a great way to get the Boston knitting community together would be a Stars Hollow-esque Knitathon. I hope it will be a great opportunity for all of us solo-knitters to knit together, sharing our love of knitting and getting geared up for holiday handmade gifting.

For a bit of context, Buzzfeed published an article on June 3, 2014 – which, they inform me, would "have been Lorelai and Luke’s eight-year anniversary, if little ol’ April Nardini hadn’t gotten thrown in the mix" – titled 13 Weird Gilmore Girls Town Events You’d Like To Experience. And coming in at No. 9 was The Old Muddy River Bridge Knitathon.

"Gilmore Girls," which ran from 2000 to 2007, debuts on Netflix Nov. 25.
