Paul English's Former Side Project Just Raised $3M

Boston-based startup GetHuman just raised $3 million in a round of funding led by Founder Collective and NextView Ventures, according to a Medium post. Companyon, Correlation Ventures, O'Reilly AlphaTech Ventures, Operator.VC and Precursor Ventures also participated in the round.

“Going forward, we’ll be able to grow our 2-person software engineering team and work on building the technology that will help us bring this service to the next hundred thousand customers in need -- and eventually the millions,” Christian Allen, CEO at GetHuman, wrote in the post. “It won’t happen overnight, but with the help of our investors and team, we are now capable of getting there faster. And that’s really our specialty to begin with: speeding up the process. At least this time there won’t be any hold music.”

The company started as a side project for Paul English, co-founder of Kayak and founder of Lola Travel. The original idea was a website where people could find direct numbers to companies’ customer service agents. Allen, who had worked at Kayak with English, ran with the idea.

Currently, GetHuman shows people the fastest ways to get in touch with customer service departments, guiding them through problems they may encounter. The venture has also started solving consumer's problems for them, a service it hopes to scale moving forward.

Xconomy first reported on the funding.
