Step aside, Blue Apron, because there’s a new, greasily delicious meal-kit subscription in town. Boston Burger Company recently announced it will be launching its own service, where the makings of a killer burger and sides will be delivered to your door, in September. And it's called BurgaBox.
“BurgaBox is the newest contender in the oversaturated meal-kit craze and it stands to appeal to a different audience: people who want to, as they put it, eat like a boss, not a bitch,” the company’s press release read. “Consider this your cheat day in a box.”
How did BurgaBox come about? It all started when the marketing director, Christina Orso, over at Boston Burger Company had her HelloFresh box delivered to the warehouse. Owners Paul Malvone, Sebastian “Sebby” Fricia and Chuck Sillari were baffled. According to the release, that's when Fricia said, “Shit, if only we could put our burgas in a box, we’d make trillions, kid!” Hence the name.
Some meal-kit delivery startups might use nutrition as their hook. But not BurgaBox. It’s all about giving people the building blocks to make a satisfyingly messy burger - just like the ones you find at Boston Burger Company's restaurants - in the comfort of their own homes.
“All meals can be cooked in under 30 minutes and it is nothing my 8-year- old can’t figure out,” Malvone said in a statement. “BurgaBox is going to take over the world. At the very least it will keep us busy for a while and let our customers ship BBC to their friends around the country!”
The company said it's investing a meager $650 - no venture capital required - into starting the new service. While a specific launch date has yet to be announced, you can subscribe to updates through the startup’s site.
