Rotorobot Gives You the Edge in FanDuel & DraftKings With Some Serious Intel

They call it a side project. But for something that charges money and gives you some serious intel to help you win with your daily fantasy sports lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel, Roborobot certainly seems like it could be something bigger.

The website is a project of Jared Clapp and Ashish Datta of Cambridge tech consulting firm SetFive Consulting, and it basically aggregates disparate sets of data on athletes in the NFL, MLB and NBA, and breaks down how they can help you win on DraftKings and FanDuel.

Roborobot’s website is divided into different sections for each league, but perhaps the two most useful ones are the lineup builder and daily lineup suggestions. If you’re more of a newbie in the daily fantasy sports world, you’ll probably want to just start with the lineup suggestions, which gives recommendations for high-value athletes that could help you score big.

But if you’re more of an advanced user who wants to vet the different kinds of stats Rotorobot has pulled together for all of the athletes, the lineup builder is the place to go. It gives you a very flexible system for organizing athletes through a number of filters that measure their value in different ways, such as big scorers, players that have a certain minimum score even on bad games and injured players.

For the NBA, Rotorobot has an extra feature: an aggregated news feed on recent player injuries, which gives users a faster update on player status so that they can update their lineups in time for the next next game.

As a side project, Datta said working on the website has helped inform his and Clapp’s consulting work in building out applications for their clients. He said it’s something the two plan to continue building out with new features, including a new programmatic strategy creation tool that lets you “write Javascript code to explore the data and create fantasy strategies.”

“There’s no possibility of us moving full-time, but we’re interested in continuing to work on it to see relationships we can build,” Datta said. “There’s a wealth of data there.”
