Losing your keys from time to time is one of life's quirky, annoying inevitabilities.
You've got a dish in the entryway where they're supposed to go. But all too often they stay in a pocket or get tossed on the counter instead. Or you slip them back in your pure, none the wiser. When it's time to leave the next morning, you're frantically searching every nook and cranny in your apartment, only to discover they've been in that damn dish the whole time after all.
Enough.
Boston entrepreneur Wilfred Hirst has created a magnetic keychain that makes it actually fun to stash your set in a memorable place. On the refrigerator, perhaps, or dangling from the light switch next to the front door. With eight days left in its Kickstarter campaign, it's far surpassed its $1,000 goal.
"No, the magnet in the keychain will not damage your phone."
"Lord knows you probably don't need another keychain, but this isn't just a keychain," says the Kickstarter video narrator, who sounds remarkably like Morgan Freeman. "It's a product that will turn a daily mundane task into an amusing, though-provoking and attention-grabbing moment."
The keychain is made of premium leather wrapped in a monkey's fist knot around a rare earth magnet. It's strong enough to support six or more keys, depending on what it's stuck to. Or a banana, if ever the mood strikes you.
Hirst hand ties every keychain in his Beacon Hill apartment. But what I like most about this project – I backed this option myself – is it gives you the option to make the keychain yourself. Pledge $10 or more and Hirst will send the supplies and instructions.
The design is simple and sophisticated. And while you'd don't exactly need another keychain (just a better memory), this one will help you "break away from the mundane," like the video says.
And in case you're wondering, because I know you are: "No, the magnet in the keychain will not damage your phone."
