A Seismic Perspective: The Zack McAuley Story

The Seismic family is full of passionate, determined employees who are willing to go the extra mile to get the job done. Our marketing team has recently made a new hire in Zachary McAuley whose background and path to Seismic demonstrates these traits perfectly. Zack started at Seismic this past Monday as our Customer Marketing and Sales Enablement Manager! He endured a roller coaster of a hiring process, and we’re all really excited to have him on board. Below is a brief Seismic Perspective Q&A with Zack.

Q: Where did you work previously, and what did you do there?

A: For the past two years, I was the Director of Marketing for demandDrive, a full service demand generation firm that specializes in building and managing sales development teams for tech companies. I was an early employee and had built the marketing department and processes from scratch. I managed a great team and led all marketing functionsand strategy, from lead generation and branding to sales operations and enablement.

Q: How did you find out about Seismic and what made you want to join the team?

A: Researching recently-funded companies was a crucialpart of my role at demandDrive. While vetting Seismic (who I learned received a $20m Series B round of funding in January of 2015), I came across a thought leadership podcast on lead generation that featured Seismic's VP of Marketing, Daniel Rodriguez. It was great content—I realized that Daniel and I definitely aligned in a lot of fundamental areas of sales and marketing. This piqued my interest in learning more about Seismic, and I came across an opening on the marketing team during my deeper dive.

Q: What was the most challenging thing about the hiring process for you?

A: The most challenging part of the hiring process was definitely the bittersweet transition between roles. demandDrive is a fantastic place to work with a great management team, and it was certainly tough to leave a company that I helped grow. Coupling that process with the excitement of joining Seismic made for a whirlwind of a few weeks. Daniel and I had many conversations around the opportunities that layahead at Seismic, so I was raring to get started as soon as possible.

Q: What was the most important thing you learned during your job search/interview process?

A: I learned that persistence does, in fact, make a difference. Interviewing can be a stressful process that is comprised of a lot of variables out of your control. I knew from the beginning that Seismic was a company that I wanted to be a part of and that I could provide value to, and my persistence ended up paying off with a great opportunity here.

Q: What are you looking forward to most in your new position?

A: I'm excited to work with the team here at Seismic. Obviously, Seismic offers a great product and has demonstrated astrong ability to grow and scale, but it was very important to me to find a team that has a great mix of ambition, talent, and a knack for fun. After my first few days, it's pretty clear that I found that team.

Q: Bonus fun fact?

A: I was both a bouncer and a summer camp counselor in college—which were more similar than I ever imagined.

We’re thrilled to finally have Zack join the Seismic team, and we can’t wait to see the great things he will contribute!
