WeWork tends to grab the majority of the coworking headlines these days, but there's another option in Boston making a strong case for itself.
Established in 2011, Oficio has two locations in Back Bay – 30 and 129 Newbury Street – and the latter recently underwent a renovation that the team captured on camera. The timelapse, above, shows the work done to the library/lounge, which, as I'm told, "is inspired in equal parts by the Boston Public Library Reading Room and the TV show Mad Men."
"Things are going pretty well for us right now," Oficio Founder Charlie Weisman told me. "We are only a few seats away from full capacity at our 129 Newbury Street space and our 30 Newbury Street location has over 250 businesses using the coworking space."
With amenities like high speed Wi-Fi, private meeting rooms, a design workshop, phone booths and all the gourmet coffee and snacks you can stomach, the appeal of a coworking space like Oficio becomes apparent.
This library space kicks things up a notch, though.
"The library space at 129 Newbury is a combination of dedicated seating and private offices with a relaxed lounge for everyone to use in the space," said Weisman. "The lounge has a fully stocked bar cart as well for members."
WeWork, of course, gets props for having beer on draft on each floor of its two Boston locations, but there's something about a bar cart that pangs of sophistication.
Anyone can snag a day pass to Oficio for $30. Maybe it's worth a visit.
