Mayor Walsh Appoints Atyia Martin as Boston's Chief Resilience Officer

Mayor Marty Walsh announced on Monday that he's appointed Atyia Martin as Boston's first Chief Resilience Officer. Currently the Director of the Office of Public Health and Preparedness at the Boston Health Commission, Martin will be charged with drafting a comprehensive resilience strategy for Boston by building "to help Boston prepare for, withstand and bounce back from the 'shocks' - catastrophic events like floods, infrastructure failure and acts of terrorism - and 'stresses' - slow-moving disasters like persistent racial and economic inequality, lack of affordable housing and unemployment." – Nick DeLuca

BU Research Scientist Identified as Victim in Back Bay Bike Collision

A cyclist killed in a collision on Friday at the corner of Massachusetts Ave and Beacon Street around 7 a.m. has been identified as 38-year old BU Research Scientist Anita Kurmann. Kurmann was struck by a tractor-trailer after the driver failed to stop. A native of Switzerland, Kurmann had been in the U.S. for three years and "a memorial honoring Kurmann has been fashioned at the site, with flowers, notes, and a letter from an eyewitness to the tragedy, addressed to Kurmann and her family, assuring them that 'your daughter left this world with love and concern by her side.'" – Boston University

Harvard student Kurt Bullard has a unique vantage point of a place that's helping to alter that perception. As a member of the Harvard Sports Analytics Collective (HSAC), he's part of the latest generation of students to help blur the lines between academic study and sports analysis.

Harvard i-Lab Startup Uses Big Data to Match Customers With Movers

QuikForce was born out of the Harvard Innovation Lab in 2014 – where it's currently operating out of – but really it predates that year by about three decades.
