FBI Releases Surveillance Video That Could Lead to Break in Notorious Boston Art Heist

The FBI released surveillance footage on Thursday, August 6, that could hold answers to one of the most notirious art heists in history. The video was taken just days before the 1990 theft of priceless works of art from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and shows a security guard allow a man to enter, not unlike how the actual heist was executed.

“We remain committed to one goal: the return of all 13 works to their rightful place, which is here at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. To that end, we support the efforts that the United States Attorney and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are making to uncover any and all information related to the theft of our artwork. We believe that no stone should be left unturned,” said Anthony Amore, Director of Security at the Gardner Museum. – FBI

Gov. Charlie Baker Signs Sales Tax Holiday for August 15-16

On Thursday, August 6, Governor Charlie Baker signed legislation enacting a sales tax holiday in Massachusetts for the weekend of August 15-16. During those days Bay State consumers will not be beholden to the Commonwealth's typical 6.25 percent sales tax.

“The sales tax holiday gives consumers a much needed break while bolstering business across the Commonwealth for our hardworking retailers,” said Gov. Baker in a statement. “We appreciate the legislature’s work on this important weekend that many people look forward to each year and encourage the Commonwealth to shop local and enjoy this opportunity to make purchases tax free.” – Nick DeLuca

Over 1,400 Tom Brady Emails Were Released

As part of the ongoing (nauseating) deflategate legal case between Tom Brady and the NFL, a massive compilation of more than 1,400 pages of emails from the Patriots quarterback became essentially public information. The emails are included in the refiled NFLPA suit against the league, which the presiding judge deemed necessary to keep unsealed. In forcing the two sides to make the staggering amount of evidence public, US District Judge Richard Berman is hoping to force a settlement. In the short term, the effect has been mostly to reveal Brady's preferred sushi place in the South End, as well as his behind-the-scenes dealings with the Vancouver Canucks (among many other random life details). If this wasn't already the most bizarre NFL scandal ever, it officially rocketed over the threshold with this development - Hayden Bird

How Placester Went from a Pipe Dream to One of Techstars' Most-Funded Alumni

Barba got the idea for Placester while simultaneously getting his degree at BU and working as a real estate agent. He began working on developing a portal through which agents could post all listings in the Boston area. Then, as fate would have it, during his junior year he met Fred Townes—also a BU alum, and Mashable’s third employee/CTO. Townes’ engineering chops were just what Placester needed, after the two decided to join forces, the company was officially founded in 2010. >>> Read more on BostInno – Rebecca Strong

Mayor Walsh Leading the Charge On Banning Smokeless Tobacco In Boston Sports Venues

It's a momentous step, especially for baseball, where smokeless tobacco has been a mainstay for decades. Stopping the usage at Fenway Park would be a milestone for improving public health. And the ban, which would come with a $250 fine, could be enacted just in time for next year's baseball season: April 1st, 2016. >>> Read more on BostInno – Hayden Bird

Boston Public Market CEO Liz Morningstar on Food as a Reflection of the Sharing Economy

The Boston Public Market, the only completely locally-sourced food hub in the nation, is a reflection of Boston's sharing economy in a number of different fashions. It's activated a once obsolete eyesore of a building at the onset of the Rose Kennedy Greenway, it's brought together various New England farms and foodies that work in tandem instead of in opposition, and it's prompting Bostonians – whose temperaments have occasionally been rather inhospitable – to talk with each other about a topic that can unite people on completely opposite ends of the spectrum: food. >>> Read more on BostInno – Nick DeLuca
