City of Boston Unveils New Open Data Policy

Mayor Marty Walsh's administration, along with the Boston City Council, has pushed hard for open sourcing municipal data. Having achieved that, the mayor's office announced on Thursday that City Hall will be rolling out a new policy for making city data transparent and available to the public through its online data portal – setting up guidelines and best practices for all data as well as that of the more sensitive variety.

According to the City of Boston, the most recent available datasets are:

  • Usage information from the City's ParkBoston meter parking payment program
  • Boston Police Department firearm recovery data
  • Usage information for the City's Wicked Free WiFi initiative
  • Residential recycling/waste tonnage
  • Active user counts from the Boston Public Libraries Nick DeLuca
Blade is hiring "dozens" for Paul English’s new travel startup

A month ago, Paul English fired out a tweet about his noncompete ending July 1—and then teased a new travel-related project, which the team at the Blade tech foundry will be focused on developing. English also told the BBJ will be “bigger than the idea we had for Kayak ten years ago.” According to Skift, English’s new startup—which has the working title Blade Travel—will focus on cutting-edge online and offline concierge services and likely also include metasearch and B2B features. And now, Blade has posted an announcement that it will be hiring “dozens” of people over the coming months for this mysterious project, who will work out of the Boston and Westford, Mass. offices. The 20 open positions listed include iOS Swift engineers, Python server engineers, Data scientists, VP of Business Development (experience in consumer travel required), General Counsel, and VP of Marketing. Blade states that it’s looking for people who have excelled on teams building successful mass-market consumer technology products, and is especially interested in female candidates. Blade is offering $10,000 for successful referrals via one of its portfolio companies, Drafted. Rebecca Strong
