Boston Download: NYSE Trading Resumes

NYSE Resumes All Trading

Update: Trading is back on the New York Stock Exchange.

Trading on NYSE and NYSE MKT has resumed

— NYSE (@NYSE) July 8, 2015

Earlier: At 11:32 a.m., the New York Stock Exchange suspended all trading for "unknown technical reasons," USA Today reported. Trading has not yet resumed. Per USA Today: "Such outages are extremely rare in U.S. markets – but the halt brings up memories of the August 2013 'Flash Freeze' when trading on the Nasdaq was halted for hours. Traders on the NYSE floor were standing around looking at blank trading terminals where no bid or offers were being exchanged."

More than that, though, the ride is actually a rolling protest against car culture. Suffice to say, a sight to behold. World Naked Bike Ride

Microsoft Is Laying off 7,800

Microsoft disclosed Wednesday plans to cut 7,800 jobs, mainly in its struggling phone business. “We are moving from a strategy to grow a standalone phone business to a strategy to grow and create a vibrant Windows ecosystem including our first-party device family,” CEO Satya Nadella said. The company, which has two prominent offices in Kendall Square, also said it's taking a write-down of $7.6 billion in connection with its 2013 acquisition of Nokia's handset unit. The disclosure follows Geekwire's scoop a couple weeks back, on an email from Nadella to staff that predicted the company would need to "make some tough choices in areas where things are not working." — Kyle Alspach
