Update: Tech Madness voting is now closed, and the winner is Rapid7! Check out our wrap-up post here.
Here's the text of our original post:
So, we've reached the championship round in our Tech Madness contest, and it's down to Fiksu and Rapid7—two Boston tech companies that grown from startups into tech companies with hundreds of employees each in recent years.
During this contest in recent weeks, we've asked you to decide which companies you believe will be the most valuable in five years' time. The contest has just been for fun, of course—we thought the Boston tech community might enjoy some friendly competition. But it’s also a recognition of the fact that, in the tech industry, crazy and unlikely things happen all the time.
And indeed, in this contest we saw none of the companies currently among the most valuable—those that have gone public—make it even as far as the Quarter Finals.
As for the championship contenders: For Fiksu, the growth has come thanks to its specialization in offering technologies for marketing mobile apps—no doubt one of the hottest new tech segments to emerge in recent memory. Rapid7, meanwhile, has found its niche in another segment that's seen nonstop momentum—cybersecurity, and specifically, software for reducing IT vulnerability and detecting breaches in real time.
So now it's up to you: Which company demonstrates more potential for value down the road?
Polls close at noon on Wednesday, April 8.
Thanks for participating everyone!
