Office Envy: Mavrck's New Party-Friendly Digs

Work hard, play hard.

That seems to be the core motto at Mavrck, a Boston ad tech startup that bills itself as "every marketer's wingman."

When I walk into the company’s new North End abode, Jay-Z’s “Tom Ford” is booming from the speaker. The devs are playing NHL Xbox on an enormous screen in the entertainment room. A ping pong table in the corner is primed for playing. Meanwhile, the kitchen is fully stocked with brews, wine and tequila for the frozen margarita maker. Co-founder and CEO Lyle Stevens tells me that this arsenal of beverage options comes in handy for their Tipsy Thinking Tuesday brainstorming sessions and Beer O’Clock Friday gatherings.

Make no mistake, though, these guys are working hard. Which explains why in January, following a $2.5 million Series A round from GrandBanks Capital, the Techstars grad moved to an office on North Washington Street with a whopping nine meeting rooms.

Mavrck provides an influence marketing platform currently used by brands like Sears and New Balance as well as ad agencies, like Mullen. And to keep employees on top of their game, monitors have been installed around each team’s desks, displaying their individual real-time metrics. That’s one example of an obvious emphasis at the Mavrck office: constant communication. The company uses the Philips Hue wireless connected LED lighting system to control the color of employee desk lamps: bulbs go green when a sales person has a success, or turn red to get staff members’ attention about a bug or other problem.

And if there’s one thing the office isn’t short on, it’s character. Each meeting room has a theme of a different destination around the world, from Nordic skiing to Morocco. Fun fact: In the beachy meeting room, one of the hammocks is already broken because an employee attempted to perform pull-ups on it.

Jealous yet? Well, lucky for you—they’re hiring.
