Boston startup Subverses—developer of a spy game of the same name that seeks to help users learn foreign languages—this past weekend hit its $20,000 Kickstarter goal to ensure the continued development of the game.
Subverses is currently finishing the development of the first phase of its closed beta, and in the next few weeks will have three full levels ready to play/test—in Spanish, French and German, said co-founder Blaine Stillerman.
The Kickstarter campaign surpassed its goal by raising $20,815, from 122 backers.
The game is expected to be available to Kickstarter backers by June, and it’s being developed for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android.
From the game’s Kickstarter page:
Subverses is a spy video game that offers users the unique opportunity to become immersed in their target language through a captivating storyline and fun gameplay. The game allows users to naturally acquire new vocabulary and phrases as they blend into a foreign world to infiltrate Omnisource, an evil corporation, and take it down from the inside.
Advisors to Subverses include Tom Hughes (co-founder/chief design officer of IdeaLab, formerly of Apple and Lotus) and Reactive Studios CEO/co-founder Jonathan Myers, Stillerman said.
