New Boston Co-Working Space Coalition Is Filling Up

Many entrepreneurs inevitably face an awkward phase when it comes to working space. As in: you’re ready to move out of the house but aren't ready to shell out for an office all your own. That's why co-working spaces have become such a popular option for startups—they promise a more professional setting than your apartment, but one that's still (relatively) easy on your budget.

Boston is full of these sorts of places—Workbar, WeWork, the Cambridge Innovation Center and Idea Space are among the local options. In February, a new one joined the roster, located in the Downtown Crossing neighborhood: Coalition — and it already has 50 members.

The setting is no doubt part of Coalition’s charm. At 101 Arch St., the 7,060-square-foot office boasts a fantastic view over The Hub and no shortage of restaurants and bars nearby for post-work winding down. (The area has also attracted collaborative working spaces in the area including WeWork, Techstars and even CIC Boston/Space with a Soul.)

Since opening, Coalition has almost entirely booked up its space - but they can still accommodate a few more companies. Coalition aims to differentiate by partnering with MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge and other similar organizations to give young entrepreneurs the chance to work with seasoned local professionals. It’s a pretty impressive community, too, with venture capital and private equity investors and veteran entrepreneurs (with two to four founded firms under their belts) alike.

And as an added bonus, Coalition has nine other locations in Chicago and New York City, which all members have access to. Pricing runs from under $100 a month for four hours of desk space and access to the conference room, up to a private office for $1,450 (and a number of options in between, including $295 for non-fixed desk space).

Regardless of the membership level, amenities include unlimited use of lounge areas, access to special networking events and workshops, mail service, a reception service for visitors, high-speed Internet and a kitchenette (as well as coffee and tea).

Oh, and about that view...
