For this week's major funding news, Boston's diversity of technology expertise was on display, from AI for robots, to a new breed of wind turbine, to flash storage innovation.

Meanwhile, the three largest deals alone—for Thinking Phone Networks, Kaminario and Maxwell Health—totaled a handsome $136 million.

Notable investors taking part in this week's deals included growth-equity giant Technology Crossover Ventures, which led the round for Thinking Phone Networks; Silicon Valley heavyweight Sequoia Capital, which took part in the funding for Kaminario; and Japanese tech giant SoftBank Corp., which provided a $7 million round for airborne wind power startup Altaeros Energies.

On the venture firm fundraising front, Harvard University-based startup investing firm Xfund raised $100 million for its second fund, from limited partners including New Enterprise Associates, Breyer Capital, Accel Partners and Polaris Partners.
