Here's the full list of notable funding deals for Boston-area tech startups from this week (see chart below).
The big ones included a Series C round for fast-growing Salesforce analytics firm InsightSquared and a Series A deal for Disruptor Beam, which plans to use the funding to complete its forthcoming "Star Trek Timelines" game and launch more pop-culture themed games. There was also the seed deal for Dispatch, a startup with technology to "Uberfy" traditional service businesses as well as "Uber for X" startups, and the closing of a seed round for WiGo, maker of a "Who is going out?" app for college students.
Noteworthy investors in the WiGo deal included Tinder founders Sean Rad and Justin Mateen, while two deals—Disruptor Beam and Dispatch—included funding from local venture firm GrandBanks Capital. Why is that interesting? Because, as we noted in The Beat this week, you might’ve thought GrandBanks was among the venture capital walking dead due to its dropoff in activity in recent years and other reasons. Apparently not: The firm has made at least three first-time investments (i.e., not follow-ons) this year, with the other one being Coherent Path in June.
Worth noting: We also covered the $2 million seed round for personal butler service Alfred, which was founded out of Harvard Business School but has since moved its headquarters to New York City.
