Skillz, one of the more intriguing sports startups in Boston (also based in San Francisco), just announced that they've added $6 million in additional funding to go along with the previous $6.8 million that the company already raised. According to Kyle Alspach at BetaBoston, the new money will be utilized to expand the company's tournament prizes for the various sports games offered through the mobile multiplayer platform.
Led by Atlas Ventures, the funding comes on the heels of news that Skillz is paying out $10,000 in daily prizes for the winners using their product.
Basically gamers, using a certain list of games, can get onto Skillz and challenge opponents to games, choosing if they want to play for real cash or not. It was reported that Skillz had 1.5 million users back in May, and with the new funding, that number only sees set to grow.
