Local buying and selling advertisement marketplace BuySellAds.com, aptly named for obvious reasons, made quite the announcement on Wednesday, September 17, which also happened to be Boston's 384th birthday. The company announced on its blog that it acquired email marketing company LaunchBit for an undisclosed amount.
LaunchBit, based out of Cupertino, California, which is also the city Apple calls home, was formerly an ad partner with BuySellAds, making the acquisition process all the smoother.
Founder Todd Garland noted on the company's blog that "LaunchBit will continue to operate as it always has." TechCrunch got in touch with LaunchBit co-founder and CEO Elizabeth Yin, though, who seemed unsure if the core team would stay intact once all of the ink is dry on the deal.
According to TechCrunch, LaunchBit raised just shy $1 million in funding back in 2012 "from 500 Startups (where LaunchBit was incubated), Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh’s VegasTech Fund, TriplePoint Capital, and others."
"Honestly, we would’ve liked to have gone all the way to become the next Google, and I wish we could’ve gone IPO," Yin told TechCrunch. "But, as a small ad network (with just a couple hundred customers and a few thousand publishers), teaming up with a larger company with a lot more resources made a lot of sense, and it’s a solid outcome."
Earlier this month, BuySellAds announced that it would begin accepting Bitcoin as a legitimate form of payment.
Back in 2011, we reported that BuySellAds purchased both FusionAds, the second largest "one ad per page" network, and BeaconAds, the largest self-serve Christian ad network.
