Inc. Magazine revealed Tuesday its annual list of the country’s 5,000 fastest-growing companies, of which 174 have headquarters in Massachusetts. What’s more, several up-and-coming Boston tech firms earned coveted spots on the list – and disclosed their otherwise private revenue numbers.

The three highest-ranking local companies on the list were networking tech firm Acacia Communications, cleantech contender Next Step Living and connected home security system maker SimpliSafe.

In the last three years, Acacia has seen 20,690 percent growth, going from $374,000 in revenue in 2010 to hitting $77.7 million last year. That explosive growth was enough to score the Maynard, Mass.-based firm Inc.’s No. 5 spot.

Next Step Living came in at No. 92, touting $58 million in revenue and growth of 3,860 percent. The green company raised a $25 million Series D round in June to accelerate its growth and start offering its home energy efficiency upgrading services outside of New England. Started in 2009, the company has upgraded 75,000 homes to date.

SimpliSafe, made a big splash in May when it raised a $57 million round from Sequoia Capital. Until then, the Cambridge-based Internet of Things company was fairly quiet. Its revenues, however, speak for themselves: SimpliSafe did $38.4 million last year in revenue, up from $1.4 million in revenue in 2010.

Other familiar Boston firms that made Inc.’s lineup include: Back Bay home decor e-tailer Wayfair; Cambridge inbound marketing giant HubSpot; Framingham-based 360-degrees app testing company Applause (formerly uTest); and South Boston gadget reseller Gazelle.
