EnerNOC Makes Strategic Investment in WeSpire

Boston’s green companies are helping each other grow. Seaport-based EnerNOC announced on Tuesday that it has made a strategic investment in WeSpire, a software-as-a-service company that tracks employee engagement in sustainability efforts.

Though no financial terms of the deal were disclosed, the investment means that WeSpire’s engagement software will be available to all EnerNOC clients. EnerNOC CEO and Chairman Tim Healy will also take a seat on WeSpire’s board of directors.

WeSpire, which was founded in 2010 as Practically Green, offers an application that encourages corporations to build awareness of sustainability issues, from energy to health and wellness to work-life balance, and drive behavioral change among employees, ultimately assessing the effects of such initiatives on business results.

It’s a new kind of “persuasive technology,” the startup’s CEO and Founder Susan Hunt Stevens told BostInno in a previous interview.

“By pairing WeSpire's interactive technology to motivate people with EnerNOC's ability to pinpoint the largest opportunities for energy-related savings, organizations can not only get a high return on investment, but improve overall employee engagement metrics, and deliver against broader sustainability goals," said Stevens, in a statement.

WeSpire raised $3 million in Series A from CommonAngels earlier this year, and currently works with clients such as McDonald’s, eBay, Unilever and MGM Resorts International.
