MassChallenge announced last spring the bevy of startups that would be participating in its summer 2014 accelerator. A total of 128 small businesses were accepted into the South Boston-based program. But just how many of those companies and organizations were started by women?
MassChallenge wants you to find out for yourself. The accelerator will shine a spotlight on its female founders on Wednesday, August 13th at its Women in MassChallenge Showcase. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., women-founded 2014 finalists and alumni companies will take the floor at MassChallenge’s freshly renovated space at the Innovation and Design Building to mingle with and pitch community supporters and investors in attendance.
MassChallenge’s showcase fits in nicely with Boston’s recent momentum in recognizing women’s achievements, in business or otherwise. Just last week, Harvard Business School grad and former Flybridge Capital Partners associate Victoria Song launched a social non-profit, So She Did, to stress the importance of women achieving their dreams – even if they don’t necessarily involve “leaning in.” Earlier this month, a trio of Boston female founders shared their stories and proffered advice on everything from raising funding to firing their first employee.
After all, the Hub ranks the 10th best city in the country for women innovators. It’s time we start talking about it more.
