Video Messaging Software Startup Vsnap to Ditch Freemium Model for Fall

Video messaging will soon no longer be free for users of Vsnap. The Boston software-as-a-service company announced on Wednesday its plans to eliminate the “freemium” model from its offerings, opting instead to launch a paid-only version this fall.

Vsnap currently lets small businesses and enterprise customers use the service for free, and pay a bit extra for features like the ability to add branding to videos (not unlike that of Snapchat’s latest update).

Come September 3rd, the company will start offering the paid version of its video messaging software, for about $300 a year, per person. However, those who choose to shell out more for the service will get a few added analytics and customer customization offerings.

Vsnap has raised a total of $2.25 million to date. It currently employs 12 out of its office in Downtown Boston. The company has hired four since January, and plans to add six more before 2014’s close.
