The 10 Most Popular Beverages in Boston from Drizly's Record-Breaking Independence Day Week

This time last week, many of Bostonians were heading back into town after Fourth of July celebrations, and probably feeling a wee bit hungover from the picnics and parties, and accompanying brews on bottles of wine on other beverages. But while everyone were busy cheers-ing to our country’s birthday, local alcohol delivery service Drizly was making sure that coolers were kept full, all the while recording the demand for each libation.

The $4.8 million-funded startup kept tabs on the all the orders placed in Boston, as well as in its other launch locations of New York, the Hamptons, Chicago and Los Angeles, to figure out which drinks were the most popular for the week of July 4th.

Drizly saw an 83 percent lift in weekly beer sales, with a record breaking week in alcohol delivery. And with good reason, too: The seven-day stretch around the patriotic holiday is the biggest for beer sales all year. According to the Wall Street Journal, “roughly a third of beer sales in the U.S. take place between Memorial Day and Labor Day, often making or breaking the year. The most critical week is that of July Fourth.”

Taking into account orders placed via the Drizly app from June 30th until July 6th, the company found that, in Boston, Bud Light reigned supreme. The brew topped the charts across Drizly-powered cities, too, landing second on the list of its top 20 brands sold.

Harpoon was the second most in-demand beverage for users in the Hub, and stole the third spot overall. The beer that topped Drizly’s five-location list was Corona, which interestingly ranked fifth on Boston’s list.

A number of wines also made the cut. Barefoot and Cupcake slid into the ranking, both in Boston and overall. Take a look at both lists below.
