Drizly is taking to the Boston suburbs. The alcohol delivery-on-demand app announced it will be taking orders for beer, wine and liquor from folks living just beyond the Hub’s borders in Wayland, Weston and Wellesley. Starting Wednesday, people living in the trio of Mass. towns will be able to get brews and booze delivered to their doorstep with the touch of a button.
As part of the launch, Drizly is offering citizens of Wayland, Weston and Wellesley free delivery on their first orders through the app.
It’s no doubt that Drizly has been busy as of late. The company rolled out a new look for its iOS and Android apps on Tuesday of this week, featuring more product imagery and a brief intro. Additionally, the startup, founded by a crew of Boston College alums, expanded into the Los Angeles and Chicago markets and hired three new executives this spring. To support its growth, Drizly also closed on an additional $2.5 million seed round of funding in May, taking its total equity capital raised to $4.8 million.
The company is also planning to get operations established in Washington D.C. by the end of the year, according to our sister site, InTheCapital. Drizly is proceeding with caution, however, before moving into the District so as not find itself in legal trouble.
"D.C. is high up on our list of cities to expand to," Drizly Co-founder Nick Rellas told InTheCapital. "But we want to check out all the legal details so we don't face any problems."
D.C. is one of the handful of cities that Drizly aims to push into in 2014. The company currently operates in Boston, New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. But as far as we know, Boston is the only Drizly-deliverable city whose suburbs also get to take advantage of the Uber-esque services. We’ll drink to that.
